Together, we can stop deleterious aging now

As a community dedicated to stopping deleterious aging, we are excited about the prospects of doing so.  PROOF-OF-PRINCIPLE is everywhere.  However, at today's pace we are far from being able to actually stop aging as we know it.  Nevertheless, if we focus our efforts to achieve the goal of stopping deleterious aging NOW, we will be able to improve the quality of life for the elderly very soon.  Even efforts that fall short of actually stopping deleterious aging will certainly lead to REAL aging interventions.  Anti-aging efforts, undertaken TODAY, will make healthy lifespan extension a reality in the very near future.  Overpopulation is not a problem for extending healthy lifespans of those alive today.  Modern medicine has and will continue to extend our lifespans, but has not done enough to eliminate the consequences of growing old for all individuals, which includes debilitation, dependence, despair and eventually results in death.  Those alive today are largely faced with the prospects of growing old and becoming frail and afflicted with age-related diseases.  One problem we face, as researchers, is a lack of funds for focused and directed research to affect these processes.  While aging is a multifactored process, the undelying effect is universal.  Therefore, the ultimate goal of this foundation is to develop and foster new Aging Intervention Strategies and bring these ideas to the forefront of research efforts, so that we can add life to years, rather than simply add years to life. To accomplish this goal we have a unique approach, which will structure useful dialog in a way that fosters the free exchange of ideas aimed to generate actual scientific proposals that could or should be explored.  We will also provide an educational resource to anyone interested in Aging Intervention Strategies and bring to attention the latest research breakthroughs with commentaries on how these developments can help stop deleterious aging.   It is clear to me, from my work in primate caloric restriction, the latest genetic engineering breakthroughs and with each transgenic mouse as proof-of-principle, we now can extend the healthy life span of lower animals, including mammals. Thus, it is my strong belief that there is no reason to think we couldn't do the same today for humans.
